Though the masses will head to Rockafeller Center to skate on the small rink in front of the world faumous Rockafeller Christmas tree the savy traveler will certainly take in that sight but then walk to the entrance of Central Park at 59th street and head north thru the park about 1 block to Wollman Skating Rink where the ring is significantlyy larger and much easier to get time on. Don't get me wrong on the right Saturday or Sunday around the holidays this locale can be packed as well but it is significantly easier to get on the ice here than further downtown. There are restrooms as well as a large snack bar right at the rink which is also welcome. The day I visited there were also various food vendors on the upper promenade as well for luch or a snack.
