London, England

Tower Bridge
After waiting my whole life I was able to finally visit London, England in April 2003. For a Pennsylvania kid raised on the Hound of the Baskervilles, Def Leppard and James Bond it was all I expected and more.

Some of the attractions we were able to see were The Tower of London, the London Eye, a trip to Harrod's, The British Museum, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Parliament, Trafalgar Sqaure, Picadilly Circus, a Sunday afternoon stroll in Hyde Park, Leicester Square and Charing Cross Road, the aforementioned Sherlock Holmes Museum and a cruise on the Thames.

Mightly ambitious for a mere 4 1/2 days of sighseeing.
The Sherlock Holmes Museum, Marylbone
While it was funny and a little cheesy the Sherlock Holmes Museum on Baker Street was a fun diversion on our first day in town. The house is set up like Holmes' apartment and contains wax figures depicting diffrent scenes from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most faumous novels. The picture to the left is that of Holmes' study. Also for me no trip to England would have been complete without buying my own wool deerstalker cap and pipe just like Holmes which I was able to purchase in the the Museum's gift shop.
The London Eye
Tuesday-After arriving in London in the morning we checked into our hotel in Westminster and headed out to Harrod's and some shopping and touring before setting off for Picadilly Circus. We had an early dinner and turned in early.

Wednesday-Today we set out for Westminster Bridge and viewed Big Ben, Parliament and Westminster Abbey, after viewing Trafalgar Square we had lunch in a traditional pub and finished the afternoon by taking a ride aboard the London Eye. After returning to the hotel the group went there seperate ways with my parents and sister took to the West End of London to see the Lion KIng.

Thursday-We set off for a guided tour of the British Museum in the morning before lunch and spent the rest of the day on free time.

Friday-We took the Tower of London tour which included a cruise down the Thames to the Tower and from there a guided tour of the Tower with of course a viewing of the Crown Jewels.
Saturday-Took the Eurostar for the 3 hour train ride via the Chunell from London's Waterloo Station to Paris' Gare du Nord (we exited England near Dover and entered France at Calais). From there we viewed the Eiffel Tower and the Arch de Triumphe and boarded a open deck bus tour of Paris which included lunch at a Parisian cafe across from Notre Dame.

Sunday-Had a late lunch, finished up spme shopping near Notting Hill then took a walking tour of Hyde Park and departed in the evening to our hotel near Gatwick Airport

Monday-Departed for home out of Gatwick International Airport to Philadelphia International Airprt
