Travel Dates: May 31 - June 4 2007.

I've wanted to visit Santorini Island ever since the very first time I saw it on television. It's been on my VirtualTourist "wish list" since the first day I joined this site. So when I heard the 2007 VirtualTourist Euromeet was going to be held here, it was a perfect opportunity to both visit with some friends and see a place I've often dreamt about.

Fira, Santorini (2007)

Wow! ...Just wow!

Almost two days of travel to get there with an overnight stay in Athens, I walked uphill through the narrow alleys of the town of Fira to get to where my hotel was supposed to be. It was a hot day, I was sweating like Elvis, thirsty, and travel weary. The photo on the right was the view that greeted me as I crested the hill. It brought tears to my eyes and energized me instantly! I'd be waiting years to see this. ...Years to be here.

Now to check into my hotel, have a shower, a can of cold beer, a sit on the patio enjoying the spectacular view, and a nap in a cozy bed. That's the plan.
I checked into the Kavalari Hotel, had my shower, got my beer, went out and sat in a comfortable deck chair and passed out instantly. That's sunburn #1.

...And All The Places On The Island

It was hard online before my trip to get a real sense of how big Santorini is, what towns to visit, distances between them, etc. For years I had been under the impression that the photos we see were all one little city. ...Wrong!
Many guides say that the distance between towns are "easily walkable." ...Yeah, right! Up and down dusty hill paths for 4 or 5 hours in 35 C heat? ...That is if you even know where to find the path in the first place? Instead, I took nice air-conditioned buses that seem to come sometimes frequently and sometimes rarely at completely random intervals but never according to any written schedule.

The places I visited while staying on Santorini were:

· Oia
· Perissa
· Nea Kameni Island
