| Prague - Old-Town Square and Clock (2008) |
Travel Dates: May 25-29 2008.
Ahhh, Prague! (Properly pronounced "prra-ha" apparently. I don't know why us westerners seem to have such difficulty getting such simple names spelled correctly.) What deep-thinking person with the creative soul of an artist doesn't wish to someday visit this magnificent city? Err... For that matter, what beer-guzzling lout out for a bachelor party weekend of debauchery with his mates also doesn't want to visit? Yes, there's definitely a paradox in Prague. ...And it's fantastic! |
| Prague - View From the Charles Bridge (2008) | City of a Hundred Spires, a Thousand Angels, and a Million Dreams...OK, I made up those last two parts of the above title, but Prague is officially dubbed "the city of a hundred spires." Spires are the pointy parts on the tops of churches, castles, and other old buildings and there are actually closer to 500 of them here. As for statues, I would venture to say there are far more than a thousand of them in Prague. One quickly realizes that trying to snap a nice photo of each would be completely impossible. The statues truly brought this city to life for me; they became like angels, saints, and gods watching over the all the things we do. Some are so intricate and lifelike that I expected them to jump into action at any moment. Dreams... This is a city where dreams are spun and tangled throughout the cobblestone streets like spider webs. How many of us were fulfilling a lifelong wish just by being here? How many aspiring painters, musicians, and writers move here for its artistic vitality? How many out there in the world hope to someday visit and see snow gently falling against the backdrop of a warm, glowing, old-fashioned lamppost? Dreams and Prague are woven from the same cloth. |
My Friend Got Drunk In Prague And The Only Thing He Bought Me Was This Lousy T-Shirt!Yes, and that's because you should have been there drinking with him, stupid! Prague is not just a city steeped in the best tasting brews I've ever had, it has a great history too. Considered by many as one of the most beautiful cities in the entire world, people have been living here since 200 BC. It's been building and growing ever since--that's 2200 years! It's been through everything in that time span--several times. ...The plague, holy wars, great fires, kings, queens, emperors, Napoleon, Nazi occupation, US bombing, communism, and several devastating floods. It's history is far too long to condense here. ...You'll just have to buy a book. Or better yet, visit! Recommended Movie: Kolya (1996). |
