The Grand Canal: A Surreal Experience

The incomparable Grand Canal
Travelling down the Grand Canal (on a Vaparetto) is a surreal experience. It's absolutely incredible looking at all the old palaces.

Venice is a wonderful city. It's small and there are absolutely NO CARS. Coming from traffic-impacted Los Angeles, that is like going to Heaven.

Getting lost

Renowned travel writer Rick Steves mentioned to "get lost" in the winding city streets since it's practically an island and you can't get lost. Well, I did. You'd think it would be easy to find the Grand Canal to get your bearings, but I managed to get lost. Still, it's VENICE... so who cares?

Pros:"The Grand Canal is an unforgettable experience"
Cons:"When it rains, it gets flooded"
In A Nutshell:"You have to go to Venice"

Hotel $$ looks ok but that club sandwich? You probably took a club sandwich with chicken, right? Because I think they served the chicken who laid the golden eggs! that is why it was so expensive `-)

Fifty bucks for a club sandwich-per person-at Harry's Bar, the cheapest item on the menu?! Very nice photos and tips, Phil!

The no cars thing was huge for me too, coming from the U.S. I mean, what a concept?! Venice is fabulous.
