Follow your Dream
Long, long ago - learned a poem in
school called "Valparaiso" - in Irish!
It was about a ship sailing into the harbour:-
"'Sail' said she 'on a long journey, with me from cloud and mist.
There is beneath the slopes of the Blue Andes a glorious city, bright as a jewel.' ..........
I did get to that glorious city - 4 years ago - alone, no Spanish, and then went all the way to Ushuia. What an adventure - marvellous. But....across the Drake Passage lay Antarctica, where my hero - a neighbor named Tom Crean (with Ernest Shackleton) had made history. And, granny or no granny, that's where I'm heading next.
My head is full of ideas on how to get there. 'Patriot Hills' first and then to the Pole by plane??? But would I have to sell all I own, I wonder. Has anyone out there ever done that? And I've heard a story that the people at the Scott-Amundsen base don't like visitors. Could that be true????
Love to hear from one and all. Mary.
