The first time I was in Hamburg the city was celebrating the 800 years of it's harbour. It was in 1989 and I was there for a week. Hamburg is famous for it's big harbour and the St. Pauli quarters. St. Pauli is where everyone goes for the nightlife. The shopping area is near the small Alster Lake.
The second time I was there I stayed only for a weekend and I stayed in the Blom and Voss shipyard across the river.
This last time I went to Hamburg to participate in the Hamburg Triathlon and spent about 10 days in the city, which gave time to do a lot of things besides the race
