It's wonderful to walk on the streets of amsterdam and to cross the hundreds of picturesque bridges that link the 90 islands that make up the city of Amsterdam dividing it into canals.
I've been in Amsterdam 3 times (1990, 1999 and 2003) although in 1999 was more prolongued visit.
I realized that bicycles outnumber cars, and they are the preferred mode of transport in the city.
Amsterdam is really a cultural centre, with a big number of outstanding churches and important museums. The important baroque painter Rembrandt lived and worked in Amsterdam in the 17th century. The House of Anne Frank commemorates the hiding place of the young diary writer during Nazi occupation in World War II.
The city also hosts a number of festivals and international events and I was lucky to be there during the Queen's Day. Millions of people on the streets of Amsterdam and late at night the city turned green for so many empty cans of Heineken beer.
