In 1997 Tallinn was placed in the UNESCO World Heritage List and since then many of the main attractions and monuments had a total make over.
The fascinating medieval Old Town is for sure one of the best preserved of its kind in Europe. The city still is a relatively inexpensive destination.
The inhabitants of Tallinn love more than anything to enjoy life. Maybe it's a backlash from the years of communism and oppression prior to Estonia regained independence. The area around the Old Town is filled with nightclubs and busy bars. In fact, for the size of the city, the number of bars and clubs is suspiciously high. During weekends a lot of people comes from Finland to party in Tallinn. Tallin is a place of great beauty. It 's also a place where entertainment and good times are taken seriously.
I noticed some attrition between estonians and russians (almost 40% of the inhabitants of Tallinn have russian descent), however the overall atmosphere is of great optimism and good humour.
