Funchal still is, in the archipelago, the place where the hotels, restaurants and cultural heritage is concentrated. A lot has changed in the landscape, mostly due to constructions that narrowed the view to the beautiful Funchal Bay. But not everything done was wrong. The improvement of the quality of life of its citizens and the recovery of the city's historical center are examples of it. However, recovering the historical center is not enough if the urban chaos that is installed in the name of tourism is allowed. Anyway, apart from the errors, fortunately Funchal is changing, little by little (mentality doesn't change in one day), and in the near future I'm sure we will see a different city respecting it's culture and traditions and adapting them to the new century. |
