""Terra de Coyra"" Paredes de Coura by bambino36

Paredes de Coura Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 12 photos

At the very core of Alto Minho, facing the municipalities of Monção, Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte de Lima, Valença and Vila Nova de Cerveira, is found "Terra de Coyra". King Dom Manuel I called it that way when he endowed it with the Municipality Charter on 1515.
In this town of Paredes de Coura the air is pure and there is plenty of water.
Paredes de Coura is the meeting point of four roads and it is difficult to say which one is more magnificent. Whatever the chosen route there are many differences and contrasts in this rich and diverse landscape
This land has been inhabited since Protohistory. Under the Romans the military way from Braga to Astorga crossed this territory, and several milestones to be found in the municipality will prove it. Thus, back then this region was already an important means of communication included in the road system of the Conventus juridic Bracara Augusta.
