Porto is the second biggest city in Portugal. With the Douro River on the south side and the Atlantic on the west side, Porto is a beautiful city. Porto is actually a mix of 5 cities: Porto, Gaia, Maia, Matosinhos and Gondomar, small cities in the surroundings that were "swallowed" by the city. City of the famous Port Wine, it has much more to offer, from culture to football, from beautiful buildings to nightlife. People in Porto have probably the most stronger accent of the portuguese mainland and proudly make use of it. When comparing to Lisbon, people here are much more relaxed and easy going. |
What's new in Porto? This is the first question we have to pose when arriving to this old city. However, the list is enormous and forces us to rephrase the question, What's old in Porto? It's the essence of a city that still remains itself, except from everything that is different... that's it: confusing! The metro (subway) from Estádio do Dragão to Senhor de Matosinhos, the strange Casa da Música over the Boavista, the new football stadiums, the access to downtown Ribeira. Everyday there's a new Porto to discover, being it an angle, a perspective or a corner, the idea is that a new city is built everyday. Porto is a city in permanent change therefore not easy to absorve! |
