"Sevilla, Charm and Joy..." Sevilla by bambino36

According to the legend, Sevilla was founded by Hercules and its origins are related with the Tartessian civilisation. It was called Hispalis under the Romans and Isbiliya with the Moors. Moorish influence is architectonically evident - Andalusia was occupied by Moors for about 800 years.

Sevilla is also know for being the home of the legendary "Don Juan", while Columbus started from a port close to Sevilla to discover a new world.
In Sevilla the tradition still remains pretty much the same. Made of joy, religiosity, flamenco, bulls, horses an fiesta. And made, of course, of the Guadalquivir, Barrio de Santa Cruz, Plaza de España, Cathedral and La Giralda, Plaza de la Maestranza and Los Reales Alcazeres. It's a city of slow movements, but intense and theatrical. A stage where the locals try to perpetuate a very unique soul - the adalusian. Authentic people, proud of their culture, warm without trying to please. Slowly yelding to the rythm of globalization, a flamenco suit is more wanted than a Prada or Dior and the tapas surely surpass any imported fast-food.
In Sevilla, hurry is an unknown word: everyone lives at a warm beat. It's more like a waiting, to explode on the days of fiesta. And we shouldn't ask why. After all, the tartessians, greeks, romans, visigods, moors and christians took 2700 years to build a city like this.
For all of this Sevilla is certainly one of the places in Spain that I admire the most.

Some great photos and good info. That's certainly one form of local transport I will be avoiding.
