Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city located on the southwest coast of Norway.
A city that depends on the North Sea. Fishing, boatbuilding and oil - all are dependent on it.
Stavanger was a fishing city in the last century, but today that has turned into the oil capital of Norway.
But Stavanger is a lot more than that. The "Old Stavanger", a very pretty and vibrant part of town is composed of small, wooden houses and cobble-stone roads. The town center is for shopping, relaxation, movies and nightlife. It's possible to drive around the town, but the roads in the center are for pedestrians only.

Quick note on Gamle Stavanger: It is located on the west side of Vågen. The picture you have posted is actually from the east side of Vågen and taken in the street Skagen, in the entertainment/restaurant part of the commercial part of Stavanger centre.
