This is the main island in Cape Vert and where the country capital is, Cidade da Praia.

It's possible to see some old colonial constructions and the portuguese trace still exists.

As in the other islands I noticed soil erosion. It seemed the demand for wood used as fuel has resulted in deforestation and desertification.

The people

The main resource in Cape Vert is the people, a mixture of different cultures, mainly southern european and african. The people is very friendly and very traditional. The music has a strong influence. There are a few local genres of music like morna and funana. Morna is the very soul of Cape Vert
