This is Rotterdam, which use to be my hometown Rotterdam is a very multicultural city with a great harbour and lots architecture. On the picture above you can see the Erasmusbridge that connects the City and the South of Rotterdam ...also called the swan. On the background you can see the Euromast. This is the "eiffel tower" of Rotterdam! From here you can see all over the city and the harbour of Rotterdam. The tower turns around slowly so you can just sit, relax and enjoy the view. Here is some tips if you are planning to visit. But there is so much to see and do in Rotterdam (escpecially in the summertime) so if you want more information just ask:-)
Places on the picture are all on few minutes walkdistance from my house. |
| | The cube houses at "Blaak" Close to the cube houses you can see another building... that is known as the "Pencil-houses". The particular things about these buildigs is that there are being used as "normal" houses that people lives in. A part of the the cubehouses are being used as offices. For a small fee you can visit the cubehouse museum. These houses were also shown in the Jacky Chan movie "who am I".
PS: On the "Blaak" is also a large market on tuesday's and saturday's. (in the summertime also on sundays) |
The old Harbour Nice area to sit on the terrace on a nice sunny day. You can sit here all day and oberserved the people and traffic around you. (Near to the "Blaak" area)
| Watertaxi on the Maasriver |
| | Rotterdam by boat Rotterdam has a very large harbour, that is being use for all sorts of transport. So we have cruiseships, oiltanks, containerships, waterbus and watertaxi's in our harbour.
For the touristic sightseeing you can take the "Speedo" or the pancake tourboat. The pancake tourboat is incl. all types of (dutch)pancakes. (All you can it!) So for all pancake lovers... this is your boat!
On the picture you can see a watertaxi in the harbour. On the right our "summer citybeach" and left our salsa-terrace bardancing:-) |
The two bridges Erasmusbridge (the white one) and the Willemsbridge (the red one) connects the City to the South of Rotterdam. I live on an Island between these two bridges. (See photo).

My favorite hangout spots * Hotel New York My favorite hangout spot any time of the year is at Hotel New York. Very relaxed atmosphere. In the winter you can just sit here with some friends and relax, have some drinks or some good snacks (and also food) chat and forget the time ... In the summertime you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the view over the "Maas" (river) watch the boats and watertaxi's go by... It is also a historical building. It was the former head office of the Holland - America Line from 1896 untill 1977. Then the building was sold after wich it stood empty for years. In 1993 it became Hotel New York.
* Mad Micks Break- Away (American style pool-bar) Tip: If you are here and you are hungry order the classic whoopie basket. This is a basket with a bit of all kinds of snacks. Very tasty when you're drinking:-) You can aslo order all kind of weard combinations of cocktail-drinks with very strange or sexy names ... and the bartender will be happy to entertain you while making your exiting coctail!
* Baya Beach club This is a disco-bar were you can dance and chill untill 5:00 am. Much people come here to see and to be seen, but I go just for the good music. Maybe at first it will be anouying, because the DJ likes to play everything at once, so he plays everything for about one minute. So when you're getting in the mood with this nice music... he just mix it in another something and before you know you will be dancing on a antoher music. But it's great becouse he plays all type of music so there is always a favorite song for everyone:-) O, and the personel (boys and girls in bikini's and hotpants) will offer you something to drink in a thin little 'pipe-bottle' ...these are 7 euro's a piece (maybe more) incl. a sexy show with you. Sometimes they just keep trying even if you don't want. So be aware!
*Coconuts This is a small and cosy bar-dancing on the cityhall square (stadhuisplein). You can dance untill 5 o'clock in the morning on all type of music. R&B, bubbling, salsa, dutch, reggea, latin...you name it, they have it! After 2 midnight it do get very crowded wich somethimes makes it inpossible to move or dance but if you can handle the crowd, its a nice place to hang out. And the entrance is free.
*Bulería Our newest disco in town! Nice place to hang out...and meet friendly people. Once a month (I think) they have theme evenings. All caribean, with lot's of swing! (Almost) every weekend a band playing. Entrance is free, so don't hesitate to take a look!
Check out my album for information on Summer festivals in Rotterdam.
And on "the Netherands" album I've also made a list of few dutch words to help you out on the dutch language while you're here:-) Have fun!
If you want more info about Rotterdam just aks.
