Most Pinoys are familiar with LA, NY, San Fran, Las Vegas, thanks to TV. So when I told my friends I was going to Colorado, I encountered a flurry of QUESTIONS: "Why Colorado? ", Do you have relatives there?," "Are you going to ski?"* Duh, I am from a tropical country so I don't have the slightest idea about skiing nor do I know what it feels like to get a frost bite. Also, unlike most Pinoys, I don't have close relatives in the States. Friends, on the other hand, are a plenty.
My desire to find out what's there to see in Denver introduced me to the world of VT. Of course, I knew then that my online friend will show me the sites but a girl has to be prepared especially if she's travelling for the first time to the US, with another girl-pal.
My ANSWER ito the questions above are "To feel and touch snow for the first time. Have a grand time in an unknown place."*
Looking back, I am glad I took the road less travelled because that road led me to my future husband. Yeah, he was the one who showed us around Denver. |

| | Love Soars: Pikes Peak On a fateful day in October of 2004, I leaned on this man during a cog train ride. I blamed it on altitude nausea and the gnawing and skin-numbing cold. Going against my travel motto, I didn't want to leave my comfort zone: the warm cafeteria after that cog ride. But after much prodding from this man, I did go out of the warm cafeteria. He took my picture as I tried to smile despite the howling wind and blinding-white snow in the background. Then, like a sprint queen, I hurriedly went back to my comfort zone. On the way back down, he rubbed my icy-cold hands together in an effort to comfort me. Little did I know that 6 months after that train ride, this man will follow me 8,000 miles to the Philippines and after 3 years will become my husband. Love indeed soars! My friend since 2000 My boyfriend in 2004 My partner for years to come
