Learning to Dive in Roatan

We spent our second week in Honduras in Roatan. It might as well have been a different country!
It is so easy to see how people can go to this island and never even get any idea of what Honduras is like.
You can get by speaking English in Roatan.. not so on the mainland.
You will see a population that does not reflect the mainlands mix.
But, you will have a wonderful time.

Certified - Open Water

One week in one place is a long time for me and I needed to have something to do, so we decided to learn how to scuba dive.
We had the greatest instructor, Shean, who let us go at our own pace and made our potentially nerve wracking experience a joy.
We went down to 40 feet on the first day and after a few days of classes on the beach and in the water and several dives up to 60 feet, we were certified.
We did need to take the test of course. Got 2 wrong out of 80 something questions, so I think we have the theory down.

snorkeling

In between dives and meals we took the opportunity of having a wonderful reef just offshore to check out the marine wildlife while snorkeling.
There was a fantastic array of fishes and other creatures to discover and I actually was able to get some pictures with my jury rigged digital camera in a waterproof bag.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Friendly, great opportunities for diving, easy to navigate. Direct flight from Houston or Miami.
  • Cons:can be buggy, hot & humid. Not really inexpensive.
  • In a nutshell:If you like to dive, check this out.

Your tip on BIBR is fantastic. I've been looking at staying there for our trip & knowing you liked it makes me more comfortable booking there!
