The MonteVerde area of Costa Rica is composed of three villages: MonteVerde, Cerro Plano and Santa Elena. It is one of the earliest developed Rainforest areas for tourism. The idea was to preserve the Rainforest by providing activities that people (us) can do and provide a source of income for the people of the area so that conversion of rainforest to coffee plantation is slowed down.
In the picture above you can see my son Colin zipping across a rather large valley about 500 feet in the air. Below him were waterfalls.
- Pros:Wonderful opportunity for rainforest activities
- Cons:rough roads make getting there an adventure
- In a nutshell:verdant rainforest with plenty to do and see
