Helsinki Spent most of my easter break in Helsinki and must say i loved it, for some reason it has always been my dream to go to Finland since i was a kid.
Its a vibrant city, people seemed friendly, forget what people say about Finns being reserved etc. I met many nice people.
The nightlife was great, a little expensive 5 euros a beer. There are any type of bars you like.
The restaurants are excellent, again you will find places from all over the world. Strangely, eating out did not seem too expensive in comparison to drinking!
I went to see a Hockey match at the impressive Hartwell Areena, which is an awesome 20000 capacity arena. Thats where Jokerit play. They are known to be the new club and followed by the upper class Finns. HIFK is the other team in town and they play at the Helsinki arena, which is around 9000 capacity.
Make sure you go to the Olympic football stadium, you can go up in the tower and see the whole of the city. quite impressive!
The Russian orthodox church is well worth a visit, make you you get inside. free of course. Its beautiful and has some impressive statues inside.
Why not take a trip to Tallinn? I payed 30 euros for a return ferry trip, which takes 3 hrs. (See my Tallinn page)
The train station is an impressive building itselt as is the parliament building. All very close to each other. |
