Now only in the past five years or so has this road been a good place to go out, it caters for a different clientel then the city centre, more for trendy students, locals and a slightly older croud than the 14 year olds you'll find in Spiders.
Starting at the Spring Bank end there's Zooalogical, a large bar with a good selection of beers (I'm talking bitter) but you do get quite a few townies in this one as it's one of the cheaper bars down the street, you also get karaoke, need I say more?
Further down there's Pave which is my favourite, big selection of Belgian bottled beers, Hoegarden on tap and during the day they do nice food too. This, well all the bars get very busy, this one has a garden for the summer, most of the bars have a terrace.
Next is Lounge which is a bit trendy, but one of the bigger bars.
Next is Linnet and Lark which is good during the day, cheap bar food, a bit Weatherspoons like, cheap beer, but at night it attracts all the Stella drinkers.
I think next comes Dukes, which I've only been in once, it was quite expensive, and there's more of a lean towards lagers.
Then comes Charmichals, they also do food, but it seems quite pricy, I've not eaten here, not as many good beers on tap.
All these bars are on the same side of the street.
On the opposite side are more bar/cafes, open until dinner time.
There's alos a lot of take away places for after the bars too.
Asian Kitchen is great for a sit down curry, Ray's Place you can bring your own bottle, there's two buffet style places, one's Thai and one's Japanese (though this one seems to change all the time) the fish and chip shop is good for take aways, but I went in the kebab shop and asked for a nan bread with chips inside and got a plain pizza base and a tray of chips, not quite right or tasty.
There's a Co-Op that stayes open late and a 24 hour Sainburys at Jacksons.
