"IT'S BEEN FAR TOO LONG" Amsterdam by nezz

It's been over 21 years since I drove through Holland & stayed in Amsterdam for one night. Don't worry I made the most of my time there. I was with my husband , sister and her boyfriend and we must have only got 4 hours sleep in a rented room on the top floor of a house right on one of the canals. The owner of the house picked us up in the main square (The Dam ) just by a telephone box. We had just finished ringing around the hotels in our Frommer's book but all were a lot more expensive than we had bargained for. We didn't have VT to rely on back then. WE did't have home computers either. When I think about it now we just followed her to her old house but I guess we felt safe as she was only one old woman & there was 4 of us. The only bathroom was more of a shower room (all you towels & dry clothes got a shower too) was downstairs but you had to go through another large room probably the original lounge that was now used as a dorm & had about 6-8 guys sleeping in it. Ah the memories of crazy things you do when you're young. All the things I would never let my kids do now.*
