My family visited Penang for 10 days in Oct 2004. We were very pleasantly surprised how relaxing and refreshing this island is just off Malaysia's west coast. This was our second trip to Malaysia our first one had been to Langkawi 5 years before. This time round our children were a lot older and they really enjoyed the pool, shopping and sight seeing. There is so much to do and see on Penang.

Wonderful Malaysian Hospitality

Once again our family was impressed with the friendliness of the Malay people we met. In the hotel the staff were very friendly, at local restaurants & market stalls everyone wanted to know where we were from. Even on the local buses we used for transport school boys would stand up to give us a seat. We never felt unsafe or uncomfortable which is a great feeling when you travel with children. We would walk the streets of Batu Ferringhi at night with out a worry for our safety.

Wonderful sunshine following the rain

Our first day on Penang was wet. A typical full blown tropical downpour trapped us for an hour under a store verandah. The sides of the roads couldn't cope & even started to wash away in places. We were drenched to the skin & had to buy umbrellas to walk back to the hotel. As luck would have it the rest of our time the sun shone and we even got caught out and had a dose of sunburn.
