My first time in Kuta was in 1997. I was doing my traineeship in Denpasar, I lived in a typical Indonesian neigbourhood, learning about the daily Indonesian life.
It was an amazing experience, but sometimes when I felt a little bit homesick, I just took the public transport to Kuta and behaved like a tourist. Just strolling around the Kuta art market, eating Club Sandwiches at the Bali Bakery, going shopping in the Mata Hari departmentstore, watching movies in one of the restaurants on Jalan Poppies, sitting at Made's Warung just watching people who were walking at the Jalan Pantai Kuta and getting manicures at the beach. But after a while you miss the typical Indonesian way of life and then you take the public transport back to Denpasar..
