Berlin: Full of Energy - you'll need plenty too!

by poons - last update: Apr 25, 2006

Only food pic I took - hard to tell but was GOOD

Lively Nightlife - and great cafes/restaurants

You name it - you can get it! Just start walking - there's so many restaurants and cafes to choose from, I found that whichever one I tried was usually excellent.

Definitely was spoilt for choice - in my 5 or so days there we tried Lebanese, Turkish, Sushi/Vietnamese, Italian, and French amonst others. You know I can't remember having any typical German food - is there such a thing in Berlin - now that is very different from Munich! :)

Ah yes - how could I forget the famous Currywurst (a popular fast food of sausage (chopped up usually), sprinkled with curry powder and then smothered in a whole bottle of tomato ketchup). I kinda liked the 1st few mouthfuls, but lost the taste for it after a while. Also was kinda annoying trying to balance a tray of this stuff in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other on a windy day :) Needless to say I didn't escape the experience without getting covered in the stuff.

I especially enjoyed ambling through the streets, day or night, of the former East area of Friedrichshain and former West area of Kreutzberg. Was so glad I picked the accommodation that I did (see tip below) as these areas were almost on my doorstep either side of the river!

Art and Theatre

Formerly an East Berlin department store.
Now housing working galleries and exhibitions by small artists.
Nefertiti at Ägyptisches Museum-she's beautiful

I will hoist one of those "grosse bieres" in your esteemed honour, my dear. O.k. maybe 2. Leaving Thursday, it's a bloody long swim. I'll catch you up in the days ahead. Cheers! D
