Nuts & Dreamers

by Rachelynn - last update: Nov 29, 2004

one of e most fav pix i took -The Sphinx & Pyramid
I always wanted to visit Egypt since i studied the history of this amazing ancient civilisation during my JC days. I kept thinking, "gosh how did the pharaohs live...how did the pyramids look like up close and personal....would my whole perception of life when i see the mummy of a once-grand and great pharaoh?" And my history teacher would then knocked me out of my daydreaming and called me 'Nuts & Dreamers". Despite her fearsome face and serious attitude when it comes to lectures, she not only taught me history, she opened my eyes to the different amazing worlds, their history and culture and she challenged us to think what did ancient people use in the older days to create such fantastic monuments? To a 17 years old gal then, Egypt is so out of this world.....And 11 years later, i finally stepped foot on Egypt. I maybe slightly taller than before, definitely older than before, the hair is longer than before, but the 'Nuts & Dreamers' still remains in me....I almost fainted with anticipation when the plane touched down in Luxor.

Thus I would like dedicate my Egypt Travel Pages to my Ms Nam, my history teacher in Nanyang JC. Thanks for all your teachings....
View of Old Cairo

Bursting

That's exactly how i would describe Cairo.

I get a very overwhelming stark contrast between Old Cairo and New Cairo. I was staying at the Le Meridien Hotel @ Heliopolis, New Cairo and wow, the houses there were very beautiful, streets were less crowded and it gave me a very european feel (even though i have yet to been to Europe. =P

But all in all, i love this city! it's vibrant and full of life. A taste of the modern world yet we can be transported back in times while inside the pyramids. Now how often can you get this????

My Journey

I hope i'm not confusing you. We started our visit from Luxor, boarded the cruise ship and we sailed down the beautiful Nile River to Edfu, Esna and Aswan. From Aswan, we took a flight o Cairo. We were at Cairo for 2 days before we took a coach ride to St Catherine, to climb up Mount Sinai (Awesome!!!). We also visited Sharm El Sheikh. We were there (sadly) for half a day only and we drove back to Cairo.

You not gonna believe this. I turned down an all-expenses paid company trip to Egypt mid of this year. ;-)
