Ayuthaya-Old City: Splendour of the Old Capital

  • If you have the money to spare, i would highly recommend you to join one of the river tour company by the Chao Phraya River, to go to Ayuttaya

It cost me about 1600 Thai BAHT per pax, including buffet lunch on board of the cruise ( lunch was good) and return transfer from the hotel i'm staying.

The cruise was very good as we saw the changes in scenery as boat went down from bangkok to Ayuttaya.

You can also take a bus from bangkok to this old capital.

Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew: Magnificant Palace
  • Tip Rating:

  • All that Glittering at Grand Palace
  • by Rachelynn

  • The Grand Palace is really something you should not miss. It's usually very crowded, thus i will recommend you to go early.

Pick up the map from the entrance and it will be a good guide for you. However if you have cash to spare, you may wish to pay around 150 - 200 Thai BAHT for a Thai Guide. They are usually not bad and they will bring you around the palace and explaining the history of the different halls.

    Erawan Shrine: Crowded....very crowded
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bangkok Erawan Shrine
  • Thai Dancers at Erawan Shrine
  • by Rachelynn

  • Erawan Shrine is located opposite the World Trade Centre, and walking distance if you are coming from Pratunam, MBK or Siam square.

Pay 20 Thai Baht to the person who's selling the incense sticks and candles and flowers.

Start in a clockwise direction from the entrance of the shrine, offering the flowers, candles and incense sticks to the 4-faced Budhha at the 4 corners.

Sometimes, you would catch Thai dancers there. I managed to catch a quick snapshot of them.

    Traditional Thai massage: Relax......
  • Tip Rating:
  • Imagine after a hard day work...er..i mean shopping and walking. =) There's someone massaging and soothing your tired muscles.
    Isn't it great? =)

There are a few types of massage, most common ones are the Thai Massage or Aromatic Massage. For the former, if you have a low threshold for pain ( like me!!), pls request the masseur to go gently on you, it involves a lot of stretching of your limbs for Thai Massage. You would be surprised at how strong these Thai ladies are!!!

For Aromatic Massage, it's more gentle...no 'kong fu' involved definitely.

Prices for one session ranges from about 250 Thai Baht to 500 Baht.

    Enjoy!

  • Take a boar-ride down Chap Phraya River and take a moment to see the contrast between the high-rise 5 stars hotel and the simple life of the Thai living by the River.....
