Q Bar: Expats Galore

  • Nightlife Spot: Q Bar

If you are into the chic expat experience then this is definitely one of the better places. Good looking people and the Bar manager is really cool. I usually come here to meet up with some of my friends when I'm in town and then its off to the after hours places. Really, the after hours places are pretty cool and starting to really pop up in Bangkok especially since the police seem to have been really cracking down the last trip I went. To find out the best after hours places just start talking to some of the locals and expats here and if they like you, they'll usually let you know where to go. Still pretty hard to find as they are usually down dark alleys and unlit. If they tell you that Boss is a great place to go after hours, they either don't really like you or you picked the wrong person to ask. From what I remember its mostly house music. Not a lot of hiphop like many bangkok hotspots. You can get great pizza delivered here if you're hungry.

Bed Supperclub: Not a bad place to start

Pretty much the same review as my QBar one. Different atmosphere but usually the same crowd going back and forth from these 2 clubs. I think thursdays is models night. Not as great as it may sound. They are probably a lot of models but that never seems to class up the joint IMHO. One tip on both places is to buy bottles. They usually give you free entrance with bottle service and it always end up being cheaper. Plus if you don't finish the bottle, they will write your name on it and save it for the next time you go there. Bottles in Bangkok usually go for about $50 or so. Seriously, when was the last time you went out for less than $50 in the states.

RCA clubs: Great on the weekends
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Nightlife Spot: Royal City Avenue (RCA)

A whole street of night life. How super. It really does have probably the 2 best non-expat clubs in Bangkok. You can go to Slims or Route 66. Mostly hiphop but really a pretty place to see and be seen if you're into that kind of stuff. Don't expect a dance floor. The Bangkok version is a club full of standing only tables where you stake your section of the table by ordering a bottle. Again, don't expect to dance, except in very close proximity to everyone else and their drinks. If you want to get a table, its easiest to have money and be willing to spend it. Otherwise, someone has to get there by about 9pm and sit and wait for 2 hours before it starts to get hopping. Went to slims with some friends and honestly, had a great time on a thursday night. Not too crowded but just enough. Ordered enough bottles to have 2 waiters serving and guarding our section of the room. Don't mean to be cocky American but sorry some of the other expats felt empowered to try and snake our table behind our backs and it was the only way to keep them in their place. Never had a problem with the locals which is why I sometimes prefer RCA to other places.

Sukhumvit night market: Shopping or eating?
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Nightlife Spot: Sukhumvit night market

I guess there is kind of a night market on this street. I usually just walk past them to the food and bars (the last I heard, alcohol has been driven off this street by the police). I don't know about now but if you just want to chill out, grab a beer and some pretty decent street grub, then Suk is pretty great. You can point at what you want and take your chances. Usually open till the sun comes out. Try to find Female bar owners as they are usually not quite as aggressive but they will usually hit you up to buy them drinks. But hey, as a tourist (even backpackers) can afford the 100 baht to keep everyone happy.
