Split lies in the beautiful Adriatic coast in Croatia. It is the economic and administrative center of Dalmatia. The city has about 200,000 inhabitants. Split is also a gateway for exploration of the coast and islands nearby. |
| | Split also is an important port town. There are regular ferry lines to other towns on the coast (Dubrovnik, ..), the islands nearby (Hvar, Brac among others), Italy (Venice, Ancona) and Greece. In addition to sea transport, shipbuilding, metallurgy, agriculture and tourism form the economical backbone of Split and Dalmatia area. The University of Split has around 10.000 students. |
| | Diocletian Palace The most interesting feature of the city is the Diocletian Palace, built on the 3rd century by a Roman emperor. The city center still resides inside the palace walls, making it truly a unique place. |
