Cologne isn't my favorite city, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy it. The old town is very pleasant to stroll around, there are some great shops and really nice bars, restaurants and cafe's. It's fairly compact and very easy to get around. Plus there are some fantastic spa's and of course the impressive Cathedral.
It was nice that there wasn't a long list of famous sights that we felt we should see. We could take our time, wander round and just relax. We spent a day in the old town, climbed the tower of the cathedral and went to the Lindt Chocolate Factory and spent a day in the spa. We also did some shopping.
If you're after a break in a pleasant city, some good food and drinks, a little shopping and generally spending some time in some nice surroundings then Cologne is a good place to visit.
- Pros:Compact, not too much to do, lots of bars and restaurants
- Cons:Outside of the old town, it isn't the prettiest city - not to say it's ugly!
- In a nutshell:A regular city but worth visiting

We really liked this hotel. We had 4 rooms in total, 3 of which were double rooms with an extra bed so were sleeping 3.... more travel advice

Looks like you and your friends had a great time in Cologne! I just returned from a vacation there and other parts of Europe. Cologne is definitely a fun place! Best from New Jersey, Bill
