Whilst sitting in the hotel bar in Iguassu wondering where to start I called up trusty old VT on the laptop and immediately hit on Nina's excellent page (VT member name - hekate).
She stated that there are 4 ways to see the falls (Argentina, Brazil, River and Air). The photographs of each looked spectacular, so I didn't want to miss any of them out.
Before making the trip I marvelled at some of the fantastic photographs of the falls on the net. In practice it is hard to take a bad one. I took about 100 and every one is a winner.
The first picture on this page is taken from the river on a boat trip starting on the Argentinian side. It costs about 70 Reis (I only had Brazilian currency with me) and is well worth it. But be prepared, you could not get any wetter if you jumped into the river. Great fun!
After the boat trip you can hike along the Argentinian side of the falls. Whilst it is not for the infirm, it is not too demanding as long as you bring plenty of water and take your time. Apart from a few short, moderately steep sections most of it is fairly gently slopes or on entirely flat paved walkways. The second photograph was taken along the way.
The views are awsome and after a short train ride culminate in "The Devil's Throat" (La Garganta del Diablo). The walk from the train to the falls is just over 1 km and the view is worth every step.
Including the boat trip I spent about 5-6 hours in the Argentinian park and could have spent more. but began to worry about keeping the taxi waiting any longer (I hired him for the day until 6 pm for a very reasonable rate - see travel tip).
On day 2 I again hired the same taxi for the day. This was a great idea since he qualifies as a tour guide so I bypassed the long queues but paid no more for the tickets.
A visit to the falls on the Brazilian side involves more of a pleasant walk than a hike, but the views are almost as spectacular.
To see the Falls from the air check out the "Things To Do" tip.
- Pros:Amazing Spectacle!
- Cons:None
