Cape Town Intro

by johnaalex - last update: Mar 24, 2008

Everybody told I would like Cape Town and if they were wrong in any way it is that I more than like it! The spectacular scenery, good weather, restaurants not to mention the wines all at reasonable prices make it a place that is easy to like. Hotels can be very expensive and even though the service at the high end establishments can be very good I do think they are over priced, especially when compared to the general cost of living. The best month to go is February and even though it is a long haull flight, the fact that there is no jet lag when flying from Europe or UK it is a great "winter sun" destination.
For many people Cape Town is not just a great place to enjoy good weather, great food, wine and hotels but it is a starting place to visit the winelands, the Cape of Good Hope and the Garden Route.
Hotels here are, when compared to the cost of food and wine very high and the top end hotels charge prices not uncommon in New York and London.
The V&A Waterfront is a great place for the newcomer and experienced visitor alike with a great selection of restaurants and shops. The nearby bays offer a opportunities for a holiday by the sea.
All of this is overlooked by the majestic Table Mountain and the Lion’s Head (and rump). Quite often Table Mountain has its table cloth on – a bank of cloud that seems to be attached to the mountain, but it is also common to see the mountain unadorned, in all its glory. A day trip to the infamous Robbin Island is usually on the list of things to do for the first time visitors as is a ride in the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. You can also get tours to the Townships and, by way of a contrast to the wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek to name but two.

Pros:"Great food, weather and wine"

In A Nutshell:"No let lag winter sun option for Europeans"

Glad you enjoyed your 2nd visit to the fairest of Capes. The Restaurants at the V&A tend to be overpriced and not too hot on service. I prefer the smaller ones in the Gradens and Loader st area ;-))).

Looks like you enjoyed the stay. The view from Kloof road is great. We drove a few times to Camps Bay from the cable car turn off just for the view.
