What a place to visit!
I have been wanting to travel to Beijing/Great Wall for a long time, and am happy to finally check it off of my list of places to experience.
Beijing is a city with something to offer everyone, with ancient history nestled comfortably beside the latest in high tech. |

Definately go for the Chinese New Year celebration!
Three days of non-stop fireworks (everywhere!) and fairs...
Bring earplugs, or you won't sleep. |
| | Make sure you see and hike the Great Wall!
Some places are touristy, and have a chair lift running to the top.
I tried to avoid that, going to Mutianyu to hike up/around. Definately some cool sights to see, especially on the western unrestored parts. A bit steep and sketchy, though, so tread carefully. |

I had an amazing visit to Beijing a few yrs back - yr Mutianyu tip is xlnt - I would have preferred to have gone there but had the chance to go with a small chinese tour group which was also an xlnt opportunity. Definitely wld next time! | nepalgoods Fri Feb 22, 2008 08:37 UTC
