Far, far away from the Costas.

The visits to Spain that I enjoy most are those that start in Plymouth or Portsmouth with a sea journey to Bilbao or Santander. With have slept through many a a storm force gale in the Bay of Biscay and disembarked on a lovely sunny morning in Spain.
Santander is my favourite Port of arrival. It has a kind of laid back elegance not usually associated with major shipping ports and, of course it does not have as much commercial traffic as Bilbao.

The Green Snow -capped Mountains of Northern Spain - Cantabria

The onward journey from Santander, whether going eastwards across the norther coast and into France, or travel south, takes you through towns and villages, and mountainous scenery that will reveal aspects of Spain undreamed of on the overdeveloped sands on the costas.

Not many travelers go to the "roe deer viewpoint" ( Mirador del corzo) The views are impressive and luckily you had a day with very fine weather
