Return Visit | The apartment - from the beach near Kompas Hotel |
On this visit to Dubrovnik, 24 years after I visited Yugoslavia as it then was, we chose to stay on the Lapad Peninsular in a self-catering apartment. You can see it on the picture high up the hill, on the left of the building. It was a good choice - lovely views over the bay from our terrace, several good restaurants, shops, PO and bank within walking distance, and a regular bus route to the Pile Gate at the Old Town. Our apartment was the middle floor of a 4 generational family home and it was good to have contact with our very kind and helpful landlord/hosts. It was my husband's first visit to Croatia, as it also was my for brother and his wife who came during our stay. They had an apartment nearer to shore level below ours. I had told them so much about Dubrovnik and Croatia I was afraid their expectations might be set too high . On the contrary all three were captivated by the city, the country and the people. |

| | Watching the world go by. One of the main changes I noticed in Dubrovnik was the number of cruise ships which daily disgorge passengers into the narrow cobbled streets of the old town. We watched their arrival from the terrace and began to get some idea of the best time to go into town to avoid the most crowded parts of the day. It was relaxing at the end of a busy day spent walking and sight seeing to sit with a glass of local white wine and see the world go by. (There were 71 steps from the road up to our front door so a chair and a glass of wine were really appreciated.) |
