"Beaujolais" Juliénas by ranger49
Juliénas Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 4 photos
I have never been a fan of the Beaujolais Nouveau - made after only a few days of fermenting and released for sale on the third Wednesday in November. Just too late for my birthday but in any case I never enjoyed the fuss of the race to be amongst the first to drink it - nor to make the dash by ferry and car to bring back the first bottles for a Beaujolais Party - quite common in the 80s and early 90s. Some restaurants still make a selling point of it Beaujolais Nouveau but those infant wines are often on the sharp side of rough, and lack the soft fruitiness of the better examples.
The best Beaujolais comes from ten small villages in the northern part of the area including Julienas. The villages are small some more like hamlets but the hillside vineyards stretch for miles around.
