Morgat on the Crozon Peninsular

Finistere - the Land's End of Brittany is a land of small towns, villages, dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches. Its history is steeped in Celtic culture and traditions - including the survival of ts own language. For walkers and families the Peninsular offers an ideal holiday destination for people who prefer natural scenery, empty beaches, small towns, art and history.

Morgat harbour contains moorings for a large number of pleasure vessels and working boats as well as "dry" facilities for boats of all sizes.
A daily sailing school operates from here; also fishing boats and fishing trips, as well as the boats that visit Les Grottes Marines de Morgat - the caves in the cliffs which are accessible only by boat

A very attractive small resort

Originally a fishing village famous for its sardines Morgat was "discovered " in the early 20th Century by Armand Peugeot of the motor company. He fell in love with it and built, over time, several houses on the seafront where his extended family, friends and privileged company members joined him to pass their summers.
The sheltered crescent shaped bay and sandy beach make an ideal summer playground with opportunites for water sports and boating.

Also a great starting point for walkers and the Sentier Cotière!
The Grand Hotel

Business diversification.

Peugeot later built an hotel in a mix of belle epoque and art deco style (!)with direct access to the beach.
The original building was completely refurbished about 15 years ago but still occupies its same favoured site and is the 3* Grand Hotel of the Bay.
We noticed that it received tourist coaches and always seemed to have quite a few guests.

Along the sea front there are a couple of other hotels and restaurants, beach shops. At the harbour side of the bay there are more cafes, a very good boulangerie and just around the corner a small SuperU supermarket.

This looks like a great place for a family holiday. And important historically too- regarding Patton. The house looks ideal, and the kids certainly were enjoying that pool!

We (a young family of four) did the Les Grottes Marines by boat and enjoyed it. You can see a photo of one of the caves we went in, and other pictures of the resort in my post at http://www.aardvarktravel.net/chat/viewtopic.php?t=37107
