"Moskenesøya - My favourite part of Lofoten" Moskenesøya by ruffen

Moskenesøya Travel Guide: 6 reviews and 7 photos

page under construction.....

This is my favourite island in Norway. Can't say the world since I love very warm climate and there is not that often the tempererature rise above 30ºCelcius in Lofoten. BUT it happens :) The water temperature? I don't care, if I'm at a nice white beach with crystal clear water I take a (short) bath... and get blue lips if I stay to long.

This, and other Lofoten pages, will be under construction for a while. My photos are laying in the loft at the moment...

Moskenes

:-)
Think my first travel was to Moskenes, when I was a few months old. Also celebrated my first birthday here... and took my first steps the same day :o)

Easter when I was 4..... brrrrrrr, very cold water! Took an unexpected bath in the ocean. Luckily I landed at my back and the water only was above my knees when I finaly managed to stand up. Mom ANGRY!!!
Lots of memories.

The ferry from Bodø docks at Moskenes, to the left of the fish"factory" (huge white building).

Roads - not as narrow as they used to be

At the photo you can see the old and the new bridge over Djupfjorden (~the deep fjord).
Lucily I took the photo, not long after the old bridge was history! Can't say I miss driving over it esp when a bus or big truck drowe right behind you. The screaming noice the bridge made..... and you could feel and see it "swinging" down. As kids we sometimes tryed to fish from it :-)

Buying stamps the other day I got this litle bucklet with 8 stamps.
Was a bit stunned to see something very familiar.

The text at the back side reads (something) like this:
Moskenes with 117km² and 1364 inhabitants, located at the very south of Lofoten. The landscape consists of steep mountains and slender strandflats. If you take the sea route via Moskstraumen (The Mosk Stream), characterized as one of worlds strongest stream - and maybe most dangerous - sea streams, you will approach to "yttersia" ("the outer side") of Lofoten. Out towards the big-ocean people have been living there until the 1950's. Today the people lives at the east side of the island where the fishing villages layes like pearls on a string.
- in norwegian it reads: Moskenes med 117km² og 1364 innbyggere, ligger helt syd i Lofoten. - -

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Waking up to the seagulls and the sound of the fishermens boats
  • Cons:The seagulls stealing your food if you don't watch out when eating

The seagulls don't steal meal in Istanbul. But they can fly from one continent to another for the love of "simit". :)

Do you know Reine well? The whole Lofoten area is beautiful. One of my top three favourites in Norway. Should be warmer here though...

Yes, the question marks are gone. You can write Svolvær or Bodø, and the real letters appear – for the time being. I'm sure you saw G's answer in the forum: "sorry to say, I don't think it's permanent but hope it lasts a long time!"
