The Grand Canyon is a beautiful and wonderful place to visit. Unfortunately, everybody else thinks this. So take into consideration that it will be busy. I went in September during a week day and it was still very crowded. First, you want to leave early as possible, get into the park before the mad rush. If at all possible, go on a week day in the off season. That will also make hiking easier, it won't be all that hot. If going on a weekdend during the summer season, you could be waiting for an hour just to get into the park. The sites will be then very crowded and noisy. If you can, bring your own food and drinks. Food there is very pricey, no sit down restaurants either. Dress for the weather, it starts to get cold in September. Other than that, have fun and enjoy! |
| | Trails There are many trails that are quite wonderful. First, you want to know what types of trails before you walk them. Take an inventory of what you have and who will be with you. If you have small children or older people with you, you might want to consider a less rugged, and easier trail. If you plan to walk a trail in its entirety, bring food and water. There are one or two trails that take you through a town where you can purchase food and water, but most trails do not offer that, nor a garbage. There have been fatalities walking the trails. There a few things that you MUST take into consideration: 1. Keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water , especially in the summer. 2. Remember that you need to hike back. There have been cases that people hike too far, especially when walking down the Canyon. You have to remember that you still need to walk back up. 3. Make sure that the trail is suitable for everyone that is in your group. 4. Watch your step! Most of trails do not have hand rails or regular steps. It can be very steep and with just on slip, you could be falling down the Canyon! |
| | Sites There are so many different sites that you can visit. You can even drive your car to each site, hike it, or take a tour. For people who don't wish to hike, yet see all the sites, the tour bus is the ideal way. There are some places that only tour buses can go, that cars can not. Some places that you can drive, can take you 25 miles away from your beginning destination. Make sure you have a map with you (when you enter, the park gives you a map). You can spend the entire day, or a half day. Other tours include taking a mule down the Canyon, horse back riding, helicopter tour and more. Keep in mind that these tours are very pricey. The horse back riding and the mule has weight limits, so check ahead of time. |
