Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew: The Grand Palace
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • This is a wonderful place to visit. The grounds of the palace are very impressive and there is some stunning architecture. You also get to experience local Thai people worshipping Buddha.

Floating Market: Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is about 2 hours or so by coach from the centre of Bangkok. It's a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.

You get to ride on a small boat and buy local handicrafts from people at the side of the waterways.

It can get busy and a bit touristy at times but it is well worth a visit.

    Chao Phraya River: ThonBuri Klongs
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Bangkok Chao Phraya River
  • Local life on the klongs
  • by SamuiDean
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • The klongs are the narrow waterways that join to the main Chao Praya river. This gives you a chance to experience local Bangkok life on the river.

This is about a half day tour. You sit on a longboat (a bit like the one used in the James Bond movie - The Man With The Golden Gun).

You tour up and down the klongs watching the local people going about their normal business.

Baiyoke Tower: Tallest building in Bangkok
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Bangkok Observation is located at the top of Baiyoke Sky, the tallest tower in the Kingdom of Thailand. On a clear day you can apparently see as far as the coastline. It is a great place to watch all the traffic jams on the streets below.

The day we visited was cloudy so views were limited but it was still an enjoyable trip.

    - 76th Floor: Sky Buffet
    - 77th Floor: Observation Deck
    - 84th Floor: Rovolving Roof Deck

The Baiyoke Tower II was opened in 1998. This building is 309 metres tall. The area inside this building is about 30 football fields. There are 1,740 window panes in the building. There are altogether 2,060 steps from the bottom to the top. It takes more than one hour to reach the top. The piling runs 60 metres deep underground or about the height of a 22 storey building.

    Sky Buffet: (76th floor)
    Bufffet lunch 11:00am - 2pm
    - adult 310 Bht and children 155 Bht
    Dinner 5:30pm - 10:00pm
    - adult 410 baht and children 205 baht

    Getting Up There:
If you are at the ground floor of the building I strongly recommend you take the glass elevator behind the ticket booth to the 77th floor. The elevator is on the outside of the building and it offers amazing views of the city as you are taken up to the observation deck

If you are at the parking lot, take the elevator down to the ground floor and then follow the instructions above. The view is far better than taking an elevator up from the parking lot.

    Chinatown: Chinatown
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • China Town in Bangkok is a great place to visit. You get to experience local Chinese life and take the opportunity to experience the many shops and market stalls selling Chinese goods. There are many restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Chinese food.

I found a lot of items on the menus was seafood, so if you don't like this type of stuff then you may want to eat elsewhere.
