Stirling...home of my ancestors

Trip to Stirling...short and sweet

Stirling countryside...picture perfect
My Father was born in Bannochburn near Stirling and my day trip was an important one. So having said that I'll then go on to say that I spent all of 4 hours here. I had planned to go out to Bannochburn as well but it was not to be.
Blame the bank in Edinburgh for chewing up my credit card that morning. Having spent hours sorting that mess out I missed my early bus and had to make do with a later one or none at all.
Anyway I made the best of a bad situation and enjoyed my short visit.
Top of Spital street looking down.
From the little I saw it was a very nice town. The city shopping district was well laid out, clean and the people were very friendly. The Thistle Shopping Centre was conveniently located between there and the main bus station. I wanted to go straight to Stirling Castle so with map in hand I headed up Spital Street. 'Up' being the operative word! A long hard climb! From the top it was a short walk to the Castle itself.
Jean and Janet...real characters!

Two ladies and a bus station

My fondest memory is of the two ladies I met at the bus station and the lively conversation I had with them. Both strangers to each other and myself but so friendly. It was at times like this that I knew I was on the right path so to speak. Meeting local people always had it's rewards and these two ladies brightened up my otherwise traumatic day.

Pros:"Interesting town in some of the most beautiful countryside in Scotland."
Cons:"Can't think of any other than it might get busy with tourists in summer."
In A Nutshell:"I have to come back! It had so much that I didn't get to see."

Another place I've only passed through, though my mum was born here. Nice to get some detail. Thanks
