York...Capital of the North.

by lou31 - last update: Jun 18, 2005

A very old city.

Early morning mist in suburban York.
York impressed my with it's history and beauty. There was so much to see and do. Despite it's ancient heritage it seemed to me to be a modern city.
Walking...everywhere!
York is a walking City as alot of it's attractions can be accessed on foot. And it's because of this that I ruined my visit there.
I spent a day and a half wandering around discovering the attractions of York. And boy did I suffer for it....Sore feet! I arrived in this lovely town on day 21 of my UK adventure, and it had been a very hectic, full on one at that. The body was starting to tell me it had had enough. Hill walking, endless shopping, lugging heavy suitcases around, early mornings and long days were starting to take their toll. At such a crucial time I unwisely decided to buy myself a new pair of boots. The old ones had packed it in and I don't blame them!.
Within an hour of purchasing them I was starting to pull faces. However there was just so much to see that I just kept going. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and why I didn't just give up and buy a cheap pair of flip flops or something is beyond me.
Somehow I survived but it really put a damper on the day.
Wobbly house.

Wobbly houses!

Walking around the cobblestone streets you can't help but marvel at the architecture and design of the buildings. Their age is obvious at a glance. Some had a distorted appearance with a lopsided look. York has survived wars and battles and is now a living legend to England's colourful past.

Pros:"An old yet modern city, full of interest and colour."
Cons:"Crowds of people everywhere!"
In A Nutshell:"Something for everyone."

Glad you enjoyed York as much as I did. I was there with my family years ago, and had a fine time.

Lou, fabulous page about York. Brings back many memories. I especially like your off the beaten path tip, although I usually prefer to stay in my fluffy bed on holidays. :-)
