My garden - a haven of peace in tourist season I've just read what seems like a million other tips on Salisbury and realise that I am woefully ignorant about the place I live! This is really awful considering that I have lived here for about 20 years now. Salisbury is a wonderful city, famous for its cathedral (with spire) but boy, does it get busy during spring to autumn. I'm not too keen on crowded spaces so tend to avoid them like the plague - so I tend to seek out the quieter spots. Apart from the main tourist attractions (cathedral, Old Sarum, Stonehenge etc) we are blessed with lovely countryside to walk in and many riverside walks (Salisbury is the meeting place of 5 rivers, Avon, Bourne, Nadder, Wyle and Ebble). My dislike of crowds extends to holidaying in the summer - a bit difficult to avoid with 2 school age children however! We try to go away at other times of the year and my current favorite is to try and book 2 weeks somewhere over Easter. A bonus to this is my cherry tree is starting to come into blossom when we return! |
| | About me Gardening, walking and playing tennis are my main active hobbies, with reading top of the list for those lazy days. My partner and I have 2 children (both boys), a cat, 1 rat and some tropical fish. Our cat is very odd as she was born with half a tail and was the runt of the litter. We must have done something right as she has outlived the rest of the litter and is now a grand old lady of 16.
Around Salisbury we have lots of lovely walks and I will put some photos of these on my Salisbury page. |
Gardening Growing up in a flat in industrial Dundee I never expected that I would enjoy gardening. I love planting small plants and watching them thrive (or not as the case may be!), working out what plants look best in groups etc. and really, really sad now, making compost - must be total immersion in middle age! Favourite flowers are roses, I have lots of them in all different colours and sizes (hybrid teas, floribundas, patio roses, ground cover etc).
My partner got this new digital camera with a close up facility, so I now have hundreds of close ups of my flowers. | | | Pink Geranium after a shower of rain |

| | Sunsets One of the benefits of having a west-facing house is the wonderful sunsets we have. My partner is obsessed with taking pictures of them and we have a whole folder on our computer of his sunset pictures. This one was particularly good. |
