Red Sea Relaxation

Overview

My wife & I booked in early January on a late deal with Odyssey Worldwide and paid approx £350 for a week in the Crowne Plaza just north of Sharm but an easy bus ride away. The hotel was pretty good but the service lacked a little at times - especially when compared to the 5 star service in Asia.

The weather was good - quite windy - but sunny with average daily temps about 18 degrees (C). Definitely long trousers & jumper weather in the evening though.

If you want a location approx 5 hours from UK and almost guarenteed good weather you can't go far wrong. If you fancy diving then it is a must. We did a one day dive for about £25 each and thorughly enjoyed it despite the initial worries. Otherwise take your snorkel as there is so much to see on the fish front. If you want windsurfing I suggest staying in Dahab instead.

There is not much to do in Sharm itself and we were a little disappointed. The old port gives you an insight into what Sharm may have been like before the big hotels arrived. There are other excursions put on by the tour operators which are worthwhile if you fancy a break from the relaxation. We took a trip out into the desert to visit a bedouin style tent (definitely put on for the tourists) and watching the sun set over the mountains & accacia trees was worth it. We did not go to the monestary as it was a very early start.
