Hemingways Restaurant: Romantic Spot for Dinner

Restaurant Name: Hemingways Restaurant
This restaurant is very popular, you'll need reservations. Its located right on the Hyatt Regency Property alongside the pool on the beach side. As a matter of fact, their outside tables (highly recommended) overlook the Seven Mile Beach. The restaurant has a casual ambience, but it's very fancy nonetheless. On the night we went, it was all couples and some small groups. Every table has a candle and it makes the place really light up. Not to mention, all the outside torches located in the sand. The service was wonderful, the food was even better. Great wine selection too. It really is a top notch restaurant.
Favorite Dish: I don't remember what we ordered but I vividly remember sitting outside at our table with a bottle of wine laughing and smiling together and really enjoying our dinner. Most likely we had fish entrees, although I do know that all dishes are served in a Carribean cuisine style. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Bamboo: Best Sushi on the Island

Restaurant Name: Bamboo
Bamboo is a very chic 'East meets West' restaurant. It is done up with all red and black decor, candles everywhere, unique dishes, elegant touches and fresh flowers. The mood is very sophisticated. Its a very contemporary and hip sushi location. (By the way, Hi-Tide was playing live music that night, which made it a plus for us). See my other tips. The sushi master chef prepares the sushi and sashimi at a California inspired design, open table. He gives sushi lessons during the day, check with the Hyatt. I don't remember his name, but he is a world renowed sushi chef. He is also the owner of Bamboo. With all that being said, I liked everything except the wait staff. They seemed to be snobbish girls (wanna be models) that couldn't quite make it. I thought they were slow and unfriendly. My husband had no problem, of course! ;)
Favorite Dish: We ordered a bevy of sushi rolls and sashimi, you name it we got it. Sushi was fantastic! Despite my low marks for service, the food and ambience is fantastic.

Britannia Bar & Grille: Quick Bite at the Hyatt Regency

Restaurant Name: Britannia Bar & Grille
When we first arrived, we dropped off our suitcases and decided to walk around the property. We stumbled across the golf course grill - Britannia Bar & Grille overlooking the golf course fairways. We decided to grab a quick bite; a burger and some drinks. It was really nice, mostly to sit down and pinch ourselves that we were really here in the Cayman Islands. Our view was directly of the golf course and a small pond. The back part of the bar is open to the golf course. A thick plexiglass protects you from stray golf balls! We sat for a little while enjoying the food, the view and making plans to start our vacation!

Reef Grill: Great Seafood at The Royal Palms

Restaurant Name: Reef Grill
Reef grill is a great seafood restaurant that serves their signature Chilean Sea Bass in a decadent way. Its absolutely delicious! We also had a shrimp dish that was out of this world. We started with roasted beet salads, that were awesome. My husband and I had a great evening; sitting at one of the outside tables listening to the waves breaking and the reggae music from the beachfront Royal Palms bar. Combined with our delicous meal and great wine, it was a perfect evening!
Favorite Dish: Try the signature honey soy glazed Chilean Sea Bass in a mild Thai curry sauce. It's served with coconut rice and spicy sauteed red cabbage. After dinner, go up to the Beach Bar and enjoy the live reggae music, we found a mixed crowd that enjoyed dancing the night away. We also capped the night with a few after dinner drinks..along with the stars and the water view - simply fantastic!

The Lobster Pot: Hands Down BEST Seafood Place

Restaurant Name: The Lobster Pot
Our concierge gave us the name of this place and arranged for a cab to pick us up at the hotel. We didn't have a rental car the whole week we were in Grand Cayman so we relied on public transportation or walked everywhere we went. She assured us that it would be worth it to take a cab into George Town for this special treat. Man, was she right!! Never did we doubt her for the remainder of our trip.. Lobster Pot was fantastic! It was pretty much empty for some reason, just a few other diners, so we felt like we were in a private dining area. We lingered long after our dinner was over, the staff /owner was very friendly and cordial with us, even called a reliable cab service to pick us up. The Lobster Pot is either two floors or is on the second floor, I can't remember exactly but once you enter the dining room, it is quite cozy and romantic. The room is dimly lit and every table has a candle. The view is of the expansive sea, but we were not near the window. Not a problem, the room was so small and you could see from almost any table the view. It was such a romantic dinner place that I don't think (at the risk of sounding tacky) we looked at anything but each other anyway. (My husband would be rolling his eyes right about now, what can I say I am a hopeless romantic!) We were served delicous bread which we quickly went through two baskets! We ordered the lobster & crab cakes garnished with salad & sweet chili and chipotle sauce. Along with a small salad each and finally the main course - we both got Carribean Lobster Tails broiled with melted butter or done with Cayman style. We both requested Cayman style. Sinfully delicious! Hands down our favorite restaurant experience in Grand Cayman! Its a must visit!!!

Lone Star Bar & Grill: For South of the Border Lovers

Restaurant Name: Lone Star Bar & Grill
Lone Star Bar & Grill is all about Texas and Tex Mex fare. You will walk into a pseudo themed restaurant feeling. Every bit of the walls are devoted to sports teams, jerseys, and logo type shirts from all over the world especially Texas. Lest we forget the Lone Star beauties..the pics were everywhere. The food is very similar to Fridays or Applebees etc, its okay, nothing to write home about. But the reason why you end up here is the atmosphere, its a like a little slice of Americana. The waiters are nice, hot even but the service is very slow. Bad service plus not so great food doesn't equal a good rating. It was just okay, nothing great. But we didn't mind we were really in the mood for fajitas, tacos and some good drinks like maragaritas and beers. In this way, we were certainly satisfied. In the back you can find a bar with 15 different TV screens carrying all sports events. Seemed like a nice hang out for locals and tourists.
Favorite Dish: Fajitas, tacos and nachos were okay. Service was slow, but all in all an okay experience. The price is very moderate, a nice departure from the expensive meals we were having and paying for every night.

Restaurant Name: see below
While in Grand Cayman, we didn't rent a car (which was dumb, at least 1-2 days would have been sufficient), anyway we were given a few restaurant recommendations but because they were a bit far for taking a taxi cab, we didn't get to try them. We heard really good things about: Cracked Conch By the Sea Ristorante Pappagallo Portofino The Wreck Smugglers Cove

Restaurant Name: Azzurro by Ragazzi
This small cafe serves breakfast items like; cappucino, expresso, lattes, mocha, and teas. Bite size pastries like; croissants, cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, and fruit tarts. We usually started our mornings here with a few cups of coffee and a pastry or two. (But get there early, they have limited supplys). The locals were also stopping in to chat with the owners and catch up on local gossip. Its also an interent cafe and all types of newspapers to share and read. They also serve lunch; soups, salads, sandwiches and small pizzas. We actually stopped in once for a quick sandwich on our way out to see some sights. Best place for breakfast that we found right across the street from the Hyatt Regency Hotel on West Bay Road.

The Wharf: Waterfront Seafood Restaurant

Restaurant Name: The Wharf
The Wharf is an excellent choice for dinner. You can eat either inside or outside, although it had just rained pretty hard for a bit and the chairs were still a bit wet, we choose to sit outside. Each table has its own umbrella, great choice because after a few minutes, it stopped raining and we had clear blue skies. Too bad for the folks who decided to stay inside, we got a prime location near the water. We started with marinated conch '"island style" and golden fried Carribean lobster cake. Very yummy!! Then my Hubby ordered the special, the swordfish (island style) and I had shrimp diane, sauteed with garlic, mushrooms and herbs. During our dinner, they fed the tarpon and it was fun to watch all the kids running up to the feeding area. The food was great, the ambience was wonderful and very relaxing.. A great romantic dining experience! After dinner, we went to the Ports of Call Beach Bar attached to the restaurant for a drink and some live music.
