Okay, so I haven't really travelled anywhere exotic since I joined VT, but I decided to get my camera out while I was driving to work today and take some pictures.
When I think of it, I do pass some amazing scenery and yet take it all for granted. A friend of mine from Canada came to NZ and was so amazed that he was videoing the green fields out of his window as we drove down from Auckland to Hamilton... I couldn't understand his fascination in it but he kept saying "this is so beautiful!"
He went and showed that video to his friends and family overseas and they loved it, so I guess we do have something special, and so I thought I'd share with you what I see every day as I drive to work and back home. I'm fortunate to work in a factory out in the country, which means that I'm not stuck in traffic on my way to work, but cruising down the road at 100kph! ~enjoy~
Waikato is also known as "MooLoo land" as the Waikato rugby team is nicknamed "the Mooloos".
Waikato is dairying country with several large dairy factories in the area and the cows far outnumber the sheep in this region.
As you drive down the road, you will see many cows- either Friesian (white and black spots) or Jersey (brown coloured with long eyelashes).
Although there are no cows in this picture, you can see a typical field. It is winter time in NZ, so the trees are bare.. but it's a lovely day with blue skies =)
you can see these pictures were taken from my car as I am driving along.. the roads are generally 2-lane roads with frequent gentle corners. The standards of the roads are generally very good in New Zealand.. only when it rained heavily, some pot-holes appeared on the road to work, but were repaired after 3 - 4 days.
The drive to work is ~40km from home and it takes me ~35 minutes to get to work. I have to drive through a town called Morrinsville, which means I have to slow down to 50kph as I pass through. Morrinsville is a nice town, I initially flatted there when I began work, but it's very quiet, so I moved to the city- Hamilton.
This picture was taken between Hamilton and Morrinsville and shows the road. Oh I have to add that we drive on the left side of the road for all those confused Americans out there :p
