I thought that would get your attention. It's true too. But, from my short stay in San Salvador I'd say, don't let that put you off coming here. It didn't feel any more dangerous to me than any other Central American country.
People here are, if anything, more polite and friendly and, perhaps because they don't see many foreign visitors, they don't hassle you for money like some beggars and peddlers do in other countries in the region.
Well, I'm not going to put any tips here, because I've only been to the capital city so I've put everything on my San Salvador page.
