| | With a population of more than a million, Benghazi is Libya's second biggest city. During the Italian occupation, it was the country's administrative centre, it has its own international airport and perhaps because of its close proximity to Egypt, Greece and Turkey, it seems even more cosmopolitan than the capital. It is a city where you see Moroccan, Egyptian and Turkish restaurant workers, Chadian and Sudanese street vendors and Italian and Greek tourists everywhere. Benghazi folk themselves are renowned for being friendly and laid back. People from other parts of the country view them as loveable rogues. |

BruceDunning Tue Jul 7, 2009 19:29 UTC I was curious about the detail of this historical city. Thank you for the tour. The Italians sure had a "hand" in here at one time, among others. | TheWanderingCamel Sun Nov 30, 2008 09:01 UTC We're going back to Libya with friends next March - Benghazi and the Jebel Akhdar on our itinerary this time. Thanks for the tips - the restaurants sound good! | xaver Wed Jun 27, 2007 00:34 UTC very well written and complete tips, it's a pity there are not explanations yet in the archeological site but the city looks really like a place to be seen. |
