Isfahan

Half the World

Spice vendor
Isfahan was the capital of Persia from 1598 to 1722. "Isfahan nesf-e Jahan" is a sixteenth century Persian proverb which means, Isfahan is half the world. And at that time Isfahan was one of the greatest cities in the world. It still has the second biggest town square in the world and a covered bazaar which extends for miles.

It is a place that warrants superlatives and is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful cities you will ever visit. And you will visit Isfahan one day because, if you don't, you will miss half the world.
Naghsh-e Jahan

Image of the World

At the centre of Isfahan is one of the biggest city squares in the world. Originally, it was called, Naghsh-e Jahan, which means Image of the World. Then it became known as Maidan-e Shah, the Shah's Square. Now it has been re-named Emam Khomeini Square. As Iran goes through further changes, who knows what it will be called next?

Its beauty is timeless though.
