Ferdoosi Carpet Bazaar: Expensive carpets

The Ferdoosi Carpet Bazaar, just off Ferdoosi Square, may be the first place where you see the bewildering variety of Persian carpets there is to choose from. My advice would be to look around and ask questions, but don't buy anything here. The prices I was quoted in Tehran were far higher than the prices elsewhere in Iran.

If you do decide to buy a carpet here, bargain very hard indeed and preferably bring a local person to help you.

What To Buy: This carpet bazaar seemed to be particularly good for Qom carpets, so if you're not visiting Qom, this might be the place to buy one.

What To Pay: You can spend anything from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. The dealers will quote you prices in dollars.

To give you some idea of how expensive Persian carpets can be, the initial asking price for this small Qom carpet was $1,600. Of course, you don't pay the asking price, but the dealer really wasn't prepared to come down very much. It is beautiful though, isn't it?

Very interesting tips of Tehran. I especially like the restaurant with live traditional folk music. Thanks for sharing Ian.

They have great pistachios. We were eating them in Sweden until my fingers started to blead from pealing...
